I was first licensed in December 1984 with the callsign of ZR5EE. After passing my morse code exam in 1991, I was allocated the callsign of ZS5BP, which I retained until December 2005. At that stage, I changed to my current callsign. My eldest son, Jason, is also a licensed ham and holds the callsign of ZU5Z.

I am a member of both the South African Radio League and the Highway Amateur Radio Club. The HARC website is worth a visit with their online swopshop and other interesting pages. If you are looking for a simple project to build , then you should drop by the HARC Projects page.

Interests

Even though I have a fairly varied interest in ham radio, my main operating preference is VHF or UHF while mobile and IRLP. The Icom IC-706MkII-G has been installed in my vehicle - a Mazda Drifter 2.5TD Double cab, and I am now active on 2m, 70cm and 40m from the mobile.

I am currently the custodian of the club's IRLP nodes, 8300 in Durban and 8555 in Harrismith. I also maintain the HARC website and HARC email redirect service.

Other than ham radio, I have various other interests. Some of my other hobbies are model railroading, sailing and radio control cars. I will be adding other pages for the various other hobbies soon - keep a look out under the Navigation section on the right.
